Stress causing jaw pain

Yes, my overall jaw pain has been greatly reduced! But stress can also cause jaw pain, and that's really only something you can relieve by relaxing. I have had a very busy week, between work and school work (I've been studying for my MBA) and my jaw and teeth have been so tight! I think I've been clenching my teeth unconsciously while working on the computer. Also, sometimes my posture will cause my neck and jaw to hurt because the muscles are tight. All of those muscles are connected! So it makes sense that when one is tightened the rest will experience soreness and pain as well.

There are plenty of options. I actually have a heat pack that I warm up in the microwave and will lay back with it around my neck. I find that if I wear it while sitting up, the weight of the pack around my neck will actually put more strain on my neck! I also will sometimes have neck pain, headaches, etc. if I wear a heavy necklace or if I wear a headband. I will try and stretch often, which is very helpful!

Since I've been treated for TMJ using the jaw orthotic (which btw I will have to wear until September 2013) I have certainly experienced a huge reduction in muscle soreness and jaw tightness, basically jaw pain in general! So I've been very happy. Part of the reason for starting this blog is to show how I've improved. My dentist says sometimes people forget how bad it used to be, so that when they experience even the slightest pain in their jaw (which could be stress-related) they think the treatment isn't working.

Regardless, jaw pain is seriously distracting and very uncomfortable! I've been dealing with it for a while now, and so it will take a while for all the stress put on my jaw muscles to quiet down. If you strain your jaw for years, you can't expect the muscles to heal in a few months. I think for now, I'll just work on treating and removing the stress in my life!
